Have you been contacted about Unclaimed Property?

24 Apr 2017, by Alliance Credit Union in Alerts

Chapter 717, FS requires financial institutions and other entities to report intangible personal property they are holding that is considered unclaimed or abandoned. After a period of 5 years, Alliance Credit Union of Florida sends unclaimed property to the State of Florida.

Unclaimed money is deposited into the state school fund, where it is used for public education. Citizens have the right to claim their property any time at no cost; however, Florida law also allows Florida licensed private investigators, CPAs and attorneys to register as claimant’s representatives. These firms have access to State records and frequently contact account owners, or their heirs, soliciting contracts to assist in the recovery for a fee.
